Independent Study

Independent Study is governed by Education Code sections 51745-51749.3 and by District Board Policy 6158. Independent Study is an optional educational alternative that students/parents voluntarily select. Independent Study requests will only be considered with at least five school days’ advance notice and will not be approved for vacations. In the case of unforeseen emergencies, independent study may be approved by the principal with less than 5 days’ notice. Independent study will not be approved for students missing the first or last days of the school year.

Requests must be made by emailing your school principal, the classroom or homeroom teacher, and the school secretary. We strongly encourage families to schedule travel during school breaks. Absences for vacation during the school year will be marked as unexcused, and students will be responsible for making up any missed classwork.
