Independent Study

Independent Study is governed by Education Code sections 51745-51749.3 and by District Board Policy 6158. Independent Study is an optional educational alternative that students/parents voluntarily select. The independent study option is to be substantially equivalent in quality and quantity to classroom instruction. Independent study may only be offered to students missing a minimum of five (5) consecutive school days. Independent study must be requested no less than five (5) school days prior to absence. In the case of unforeseen emergencies, independent study may be approved by the principal with less than 5 days’ notice. Independent study will not be approved for students missing the first or last days of the school year.
